Maintenance Man With Hose

I had just finished shooting landscapes of Carl Schurz Park and was walking across the street when I saw this maintenance man hosing down the front of an apartment building.  I photographed him hosing a door, then walked up and asked if I could take a picture of him looking into the camera.  After I did he began to tell me a bit about himself and how he had been working at this building for 48 years!  He had two more years before retirement.  He gave me a bit of history about this particular building, which was very well maintained but otherwise relatively unassuming and similar to many buildings I see on the Upper East Side.  But this particular building was home to some prominent New York City families.  He then took me through several locked gates to the back of the building and showed me a marvelous garden exclusively for the enjoyment of those who lived in the building.  It was quiet and serene.
